Scene of the cat crime

There are areas around the house that we do and do not allow the cats. For example, they are not allowed on the kitchen counter the sink it in, nor where counters were food is prepared, but there is one small counter by the window they are allowed on, so they can sit and look out the window.

The dining table is another place the are not allowed.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to enforce this when we’re asleep.

This is what I found this morning.

The bowl of carrots and potatoes were scrubbed last night, to be cooked today. The cucamelons are kept out for snacking.

It turns out the cats like to drag off the carrots.

Shortly after I took this photo, I spotted Saffron running by behind me.

Then she dropped a pilfered cucamelon she had been carrying, and started batting it around.

Nasty cat criminals! šŸ˜€

  1. Cats (and dogs) never follow the rules when you’re not looking. Our first of the current pair was so bad about getting up on the kitchen table at night that we had to set a kitty trap. Even the cans of compressed air with a motion sensor didn’t work, beyond letting us know how often it was happening.

I finally pulled a trick I read online: Several empty soda or beer cans set around the edge of the table with a light grey thread run between them and looped around each can’s tab. The cat jumps up, and can’t see the thread in the dark, trips over the thread, making the cans fall over and rattle. Kitty gets scared and runs off. Lesson learned.

One of two cases with the cat that I had a video camera set up for America’s Funniest Home Videos. Cat jumped up alright. Got the thread tangled around her paw and dragged the cans halfway across the house at warp speed. We were in bed at the time and laughed our butts off.

Then there was the time the other one got on the kitchen island and ate half a pound of pulled chicken that we were going to make into chicken salad for sandwiches… All in the 15 minutes it took to run to the store for Mayo. She had the chicken breath to prove it too. Lesson for the day; Cat is ancient Egyptian for filthy beast. šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

    • Lol! Too funny!

We have tried aluminum foil, and cans, too. Not with thread, though. Will definitely have to try again.

The table, at least, can be wiped. My biggest irritant is the kittens using my plant pots as beds. I had 5 avocados in one pot. I’m now down to one. We even tried using Duct tape, sticky side up, among other things. Nothing works for long.
