Interesting find, and medical update

While doing my rounds yesterday evening, checking the eastern fence line in the spruce grove, something bright and red caught my eye.

There are quite a few bright red rose hips in the area, but these were completely different.

I tried to use the Lens app on my phone to identify them, but we get no signal – data or wifi – out there, so I wasn’t able to get a search result until I was by the house.

Apparently, we have American Cranberry growing among our spruces!

Which, apparently, are not true cranberries at all!

I went back this morning to get a better look, and take some photos.

Bonus Critter, pre-op update and more

My daughter and I were coming home when I spotted something on the road, right at the corner I was turning at.

A red sided garter snake!

I was very happy to see it; I’ve seen so very few this year.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t move away.

My daughter got out and tried to shoo it off the road, and at first it started to cross, but then it decided to go for the big shady spot.

Under the van.

I had just started to move again, too, but she quickly signaled me to stop.

The little bugger just curled up behind my tire and would not move!

Time to put my feet up

Today, my husband finally had his appointment in at the heart clinic in the city. It was in the afternoon, but they say to come in 45 minutes early. We figured out when we would have to leave to make it with plenty of time, then left a half hour earlier than that, for time to pick up gas along the way.

It was a very good thing we did!

Not long after we left the town we fueled up in, we drove right into a downpour.

Well, now

This morning was more relaxed for me, thanks to my family taking care of critter feeding. Before heading out to take my mother to her doctor’s appointment, I just had to switch out the memory card on the trail cam, then do some of my usual walk-about.

While walking in the outer yard, past where the grass is overgrown between trees, I noticed a large area of the grass trampled down. Some creature or creatures had surely been tumbling about in there!

As a paused to look, there was an explosion of cats and kittens from under one of the trees!

Finally getting rain – and, ouch

Things have been hot for the past few days, and will continue to be hot for the next while. It’s not even noon as I write this, and we’re already at 25C, with a “real feel” of 29C. We’ve also had a lot of thunderstorm warnings, but aside from one quick pass, they have been missing us. We have, however, been getting some decent rain. I haven’t heard locally, yet, but the municipality next to ours announced their burn ban has finally been lifted. I expect ours is, too.

This afternoon, we’re supposed to get temperatures of 29C (feeling like 36C) and thunderstorms through the evening. If rain is all we get again, I’ll be quite happy.

The grape vines are quite appreciating the moisture.

Back to work (and update)

Today, I finally went through the yard to pick up the winter’s fallen branches.

I got three wheel barrows full. One of them was just branches from under the willow tree in the south yard. Another was almost entirely from the ancient willow in the maple grove.

Ready and waiting – an update

Well, my husband’s replacement hospital bed arrived this morning!

Yay!

Though I am perplexed.

I thought he was approved for a heavier weight bearing bed. Instead, he got the exact same bed as before. Which is rated to above what my husband is, but that didn’t stop the other one from starting to break.

The mattress, however, is an “ultra” version that has a higher weight rating. It’s also thinner at the foot end, which I found interesting.
