Hello, Critters

Ah, a much more pleasant day today!  Just the winds dying down makes a huge difference.  There are blizzard warnings for later on, but not in our area.  We’re just supposed to get a mix or rain and snow some time.

I’m still waiting for that last big blow-out before real spring (as opposed to calendar spring) arrives.

Interestingly, the better weather conditions did not translate into increased critter activity outside our window.

Nasty Crime Boy came to check out the birds.

Later, we saw Beep Beep climbing one of the trees.  Rolando Moon came out to say hi when I brought the food out, and that was it for the outside cats.

As for the deer, we only saw Hungry Girl and Barbecue.  My being in the window taking pictures seemed to make Hungry Girl very nervous, so I didn’t stay for long.  I did get a couple of cute photos, though.  Including my obligatory tongue shots! :-D  I got both Hungry Girl…

… and Barbecue…

… just a peak of a tongue. :-D

It was a quiet day overall, which I’m quite enjoying.  Visits with my mother tend to require a few days of recovery time.  Seeing her every day for 5 days in a row?  I’m going to need at least a week to de-stress!  I did get a call from her today, and I was happy to learn she had booked an appointment with her local doctor for tomorrow – that was fast!  She didn’t get her brace on, though tomorrow she is hoping to talk to some staff about getting the assistance.  I don’t know how the process works in this province yet, but I’m hoping she will be able to get daily visits to put the brace on her, quickly.

I did get a quick trip into town to pick up some things for Easter that will need advance prep time, plus I got my van booked to get the safety done in a couple of days.  I really don’t know what to expect with that.  I’m hoping it’ll be inexpensive, but my paranoid side is thinking they’re going to find new, expensive problems in the process.  Because it just always seems to happen that way!  If all goes well, though, I’ll have the safety done in the morning, and by afternoon, I can get our registration and insurance transferred over.  Then I’ll finally be driving with this province’s license plates!  It’ll only be a month and a half past when it was supposed to get done. :-/

I just know it’s not going to be that simple.  There’s going to be something to complicate things, right?  :-D

I am so looking forward to this hassle being over and done with!

Peek-a-… Are you edible?

So I’ve got my monitor set up *beside* me, rather than in front of me, as I’m stuck on the couch with a small table for a typing platform. The monitor is on a shelf, right near the window; while I have to deal with sun issues daily, the view is worth it. Apparently, Finnigan is of the same opinion; you see him here, watching a squirrel intently..

We have art!

I got up this morning, and found art up on the living room wall.  This is awesome!

These are paintings done by my older daughter.  Before the move, we talked about what we wanted to put up on the walls once my mother’s stuff was down (which still isn’t finished, but we are getting there…). I told her that, aside from the photos we had, I wanted more of her art up.

These, with green and gold, are perfect beside the umbrella tree and gold framed mirror.

Love it!  I look forward to more!

More Outside Cats

It has taken me forever to get a good shot of Rolando Moon.  He She is constantly moving!

Rolando Moon does not approve of Beep Beep’s methods of keeping the toes warm.

Bonus Mothman shot.

Damage

Got some pictures of the damage done.

They were really lucky the pole broke, and not the wire!

They tore up the driveway quite a bit.

Even at the gate.

They even went into the ditch a bit.

I never imagined a few inches of snow would be too much for the truck. It’s not like they don’t drive through snow all the time!

The driveway is what it is.  It’s not going to be a problem.  That only the pole will need to be replaced, and not the roof is good.  Very fortunate no one got electrocuted.

The latch on our screen door got broken, too.  It can close, but the bottom part broke off, so it turns on the remaining top screw.  I have discovered it opens in the wind.

Ah, well.

Movers Update

Some time after I posted our saga of the movers earlier today, we got a call back from them.

They will be here on Saturday (today is Wednesday). !!!

They will load the truck tomorrow, but only once they are paid in full, by 5pm Thursday.

I’ve already sent the maximum my bank allows for etransfers. Received and acknowledged. Tomorrow, I send them the remaining balance.

Hopefully, all will go well, and we will have our stuff in three days.

We still have lots to do, but most importantly, we have furniture to move out. Then, Saturday morning, we take the current beds out.

The girls had to rearrange the shed to make room for it all.  People have been putting things in There, willy nilly, for a long time. No one was thinking an entire house would end up in there.

Tomorrow, we take the mirror off my mom’s big dresser, then figure out how to fit it in the van.

Too bad we don’t have a trailer hitch we could hook a trailer up to, like we originally planned. 😕

Meanwhile, we hauled another load to the shed as well. The cold has my van making a horrible whining noise. I am so paranoid out the engine failing or something. When our last vehicle died, we went a month without a vehicle.  That was extremely difficult, and my husband had to cancel medical appointments because taking the bus was too painful.  Being as isolated as we are, losing our vehicle would be a major blow. This vehicle is older than our last one, with a lot of miles on it. It was all we could afford, and the dealership screwed us over. Our mechanic assured us the engine was sound (we had a lot of other work that needed to be done, just to make it roadworthy).

But I am still paranoid.

We shall see.

Meanwhile, I am so looking forward to sleeping on our own mattresses again.  I might even be able to stop taking pain killers before bed.

Nah. Who am I kidding? Lol

Our Cat is Smrt

There was a large framed mirror we were not sure what to do with. We decided to just hang it back in the same place, oriented differently.  The base is now much closer to the floor than before.

Then we put my big umbrella tree in front of it.

A chair had been set aside where the plant is now, and once the plant was in place, it just got tucked out of the way beside it.

Later, our darling mama cat was on the chair, and decided to jump into…

A cat’s eye view…

That new space behind the plant.

Straight into the mirror.

She then ignominiously ran away.

Silly girl.

Things We Find – part 4. Hidden Treasures

Today, I started on the master bedroom.

Wow.

I focused first on the “linen” closet.  There was also a row of shelves with cloths I wanted to empty.

Part way through, as I pulled items down from higher in the closet, I was perplexed by the sound if things hitting the carpet, like rain. I eventually clued in that it was mouse shit.

Joy. I guess I should have been wearing mask and gloves.
