A pair of Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, ignoring the rain.
Rose breasted grosbeak, in a lilac bush.
He is staring into your soul…
Oh, Canada! I snap my beak at thee!
I can’t get over how huge the beaks are on these guys. So much larger than the pine grosbeaks we used to see all the time!
What a difference between these male and female rose breasted grosbeaks!

This was taken towards the middle of May, when the rose-breasted grosbeaks first started showing up.
From a single male and female pair, we now get whole bunches of them, visiting us.
This is another one of those birds local to our area that I’d never seen before until we moved back here.
Yesterday, my daughter got photos of a bird we have not seen here before.
This is a male rose-breasted grosbeak. What a gorgeous bird!
On finding the above link and watching a video there, I realize that, while I have never seen one before, I have certainly heard its song.
