Critter of the Day: Good Mourning

We had a new bird show up at our feeding station in May that had us pretty excited. It was clearly a dove, but not one I’d ever seen before.

My daughter did some research and identified it as a mourning dove, and mentioned that we’ve been hearing them many times.

This was when I discovered that a hooting owl sound I remember hearing throughout my childhood growing up here, was not an owl at all, but a mourning dove!

Critter of the Day: white throated sparrow

A couple of photos from the last day of April; by this time, we were seeing lots of white throated sparrows visiting the feeding station.

I just love the pattern the lifted feathers are making in the second shot.

Critter of the Day: a shy blep

I have finally been able to go through photos from our living room camera, and process the last batch from April.

This was taken later in the month, and is among the last deer sightings we’ve had this season. Now that things are getting all green, the deer don’t need to come by here as often.

Critter of the Day: windy!

We haven’t seen much of the squirrels for months, but they seem to be back now. This photo was taken and a particularly windy day in April.

The blowing wind reveals the different layers of colour in the squirrels fur. Hard to believe how dark it is under those red tips.
