Grab hold!

The larger grosbeaks may have trouble using the hanging feeder, but that doesn’t stop them from trying!

They have just barely enough room for them to perch at the corners, then have to twist to be able to reach the seed before having to drop off and fly away.

 

 

The grosbeaks are back

I had started to see the pine grosbeaks in some of our crab apple and ornamental apple trees.  Once I picked up the the new birdseed, we’ve started to see them at the feeder.  Especially this lovely couple.

She looks a bit perplexed.

She was also much harder to get pictures of!  The male, on the other hand, was more co-operative.
