Cat Whisperer, and more

My younger daughter is some kind of cat whisperer!

Last night, when she headed out to give the outside cats some warm water for the night, The Mothman came out.  He’s been hanging out more often, and even taken over one of the old dog houses at times.  The other cats are nervous around him, so they won’t go in with him, like they do with each other.  When she came out, there were cats all over for some reason.  Then Mothman came out of the dog house and she saw why!

As he was drinking water (and all the other cats crowded around the second water bowl), he allowed her to come close and eventually pet him!

This morning, my husband fed the cats.  We keep the cat food in the sun room, and usually they dash in while the bowls are being filled, then dash out with the food.  This time, he couldn’t close the doors because 4 cats were in the sun room and they wouldn’t come out.  So after a couple of hours, I went outside to close the doors.  They really didn’t want me to close that room!  I managed to get them all out and close the doors, then I saw him.  Mothman was in the dog house again.  Which is likely why all the other cats wanted into the sun room – they lost their usual shelter!

With my daughter’s success last night, I tried to get closer to Mothman.  Usually, he leaves when I do that, but this time, he not only let me come closer, he let me pet him!

I have no idea where this cat is from.  The others, I’m pretty sure are siblings, and have been around here for some time.  Mothman is from elsewhere.  Perhaps one of the neighbouring farms?  I don’t know.

Later on, after returning from the dump, the girls saw some cats at an old truck by a shed across from the garage.  They recognized Rolando Moon, the biggest of the bunch (but still not as big as Mothman), Beep Beep and one that might have been Squishums, or one of the other orange cats.

Rolando Moon, however, is assertively friendly and pretty much the only one that actively seeks out pets and stays there.  The other friendly one is Nasty Crime Boy, who likes attention, but still doesn’t seem quite sure what to do with it.

This cat, however, had both his ears.  Rolando Moon’s ears are damaged.  It was also very stand-offish and shy.

It looks like we might have a 9th cat!

Meanwhile…

A claim, with photographs, has been sent in to the moving company.  I included photos of damage to the latch of our screen door, as well as the damaged items we found.  As much as it bothers me that they damaged my daughter’s art, it’s really just the power pole that is a priority.  We need power in that garage so we can plug in the block heater on our van.  It would be good to get that done before we hit temperatures of -30C on a regular basis!

We also finally made it to the landfill.

Things have changed a bit.

Basic garbage now goes into a bunch of large bins, of the same type used for apartment and office buildings.  There is also a long row of recycling bins.  They don’t want them sorted; the bins are now taken to the city, to get sorted there.  They just don’t take plastic bags or glass.  There is a separate bin for glass, and a small garbage can for the bags after the recycling is dumped into the bins.

I don’t know what there is for a pit anymore; I did see a truck drive around to where it was, but it looks like the pit has been filled (no surprise, after 13 years), but I could still see piles of what looked like garbage.  There is a separate shed for newspapers, and another for stuff like oil.

Now, we just have to make sure to head out there on a weekly basis, since there is no where animal proof to put our garbage bags outside.

Two things I round really funny about our trip to the dump.

One, there are 3 Pokestops nearby.  Just off the other side of the highway is a small park and two churches, and they are all stops.

Two, we had cell phone coverage.

The dump is even more in the middle of nowhere than we are, yet we had decent signal strength and everything.

Go figure!
