So glad to be seeing deer daily, again. :-)
Wildlife out our window
Bucky
Nice view
This was taken out my office window this morning.
He started by the feeding station, walked completely around the house, then meandered his way over towards the barn.
Checking later, yeah, the wire for the electric fence is pulled up a bit again.
Need to look around for some kind of ribbon I can attach to the wire, so they can see it.

I’m saving that for later
Furry Visitors
We had a couple of deer come visit us yesterday, and this time, we had some feed waiting for them. :-)
They are just starting to get their thicker winter coats.
This one has lost his antlers fairly recently.
Mmmm. Tasty!
Butt kisser!
I stick my tongue out at thee!!
I am so happy the deer are coming by more often again. I love catching photos of them with silly faces! :-D

Bird Feeder – hello in there!
Well, hello, young one!
We got ourselves a deer visitor this morning! A lovely young buck that has been visiting off and on.
When I got to the window to take pictures, he was right under the bird feeder and looked like he was going to jump up to try and get at the seed! I didn’t get the camera ready before he started to walk away, but he was so close, it would have been hard to get a photo of him with the telephoto lens, anyhow.
Just look at that icicle beard!
Unfortunately, we are out of deer feed right now, and getting low on bird seed, too. I won’t be able to get more until tomorrow, at the earliest. :-(
The buck was clearly looking for food, and even settled for some spruce needles!
Interesting that he has no interest in grassing on the “hay” in the main garden area. I’ve seen them go for elm and maple leaves before, but this is the firs time I’ve seen them go for spruce.
He was really yanking on that branch, too! He even pawed at the ground under there, too, looking for something to nibble on, before heading towards the crab apples.
There are still frozen apples on this tree, but they aren’t falling down, even when I try and shake the tree. Ah, well. Perhaps they will fall over the winter and become a nice deer treat.
I had to wait before I could take photos as he was walking away. He was walking with his tail up, and I really didn’t want to take photos of a big butt hole and dangly bits. :-D
After this, he slowly wandered away.
It was good to see him again. :-)

Bird feeder
I recently picked up some more mixed bird seed and added it to our feeder.
I find it interesting, which seeds get eaten right away, and which get left behind.
And the lengths some birds will go to, to get their preferred seed, while ignoring other seeds that are easier to get to.
Like this nuthatch.
All the birds seem to prefer the same seeds. Which is weird, as the seed blend is designed to appeal to a variety of birds. Our visiting birds don’t seem to want variety in their food!
The above photo was taken yesterday, before the snow fell. (I got some others, I will post over the next few days.) Today, they were digging through the snow to get at the seeds.
They were being watched, as they did so!
The Outsider was very interesting in what they were doing up there!
Gosh, he’s an adorable cat.
When it gets dark out, we can still see the white of the hanging bird feeder, but the rest of the platform and stand is barely visible.
Last night, while sitting in my crochet corner, I noticed the hanging feeder swinging away and thought it was getting quite windy! Then I saw some movement, as the stand itself seemed to move. We’ve had wind gusts strong enough to knock it over, so that got my attention.
Which is when I saw the black shadow, moving around on the platform feeder. A splash of white came into view, and I found Doom Guy, looking back at me though the window!
Too funny!
That makes three of the kittens that we’ve seen up on the platform feeder! Makes me wonder how often it happens, when we’re not there to see it. :-)

A Good Day – and critters!
Before I go into today’s events, I wanted to share this photo from a few days back.
I had been watching the birds at the feeder and noticed some much bigger birds under the apple tree. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many robins, all together (there were several more that I was unable to get in a photo) . I also didn’t know robins like to eat crab apples!
Between the birds and the deer, any fallen apples get cleaned up, real quick! Continue reading
A lovely day
Today is officially Thanksgiving, so I will happily say again, Happy Thanksgiving! I hope my Canadian visitors had a wonderful holiday weekend, with lots of food and family – or a lovely, quiet, non-party weekend, like we did!
Since we did our celebrating yesterday, and today was a fairly pleasant day, we were able to get some work done outside. The girls were able to rake up lots more leaves to layer on the flower garden by the Old Kitchen, which I’m pretty excited about. Lots of lovely organic matter! :-D
We are going to have to stop keeping the sun room doors propped open overnight. More turd bombs were discovered this morning, plus something chewed a hole in the bottom of the open back of cat kibble. Most likely the skunk, we think. We did end up still leaving the door open during the day. Which makes looking out the bathroom window something to look forward to!
I was called over to see this adorable pile of fluff, and while I was taking photos through the bathroom window screen, I started getting called to look out the living room window, to see a deer!
It was under the crab apple trees, looking for apples, and we did get some photos with the DSLR. I will upload those tomorrow to see how they turned out. Unfortunately, I did not manage to get a photo of the deer standing up on its hind legs, trying to reach the apples on the tree!
After a while, it slowly wandered away down the garden, and we couldn’t see it anymore. However, when I went into the master bedroom, I found I was able to see it through the maple grove. As I stood watching it, I suddenly saw a second one, going through the trees and heading towards the house!
I was able to get a few photos through the screen of the west facing window. This one was also going under the crab apple and plum trees, looking for fallen fruit.
So beautiful!
After the deer left, I went to work on the sun room. Most of the kittens took off when I came in through the Old Kitchen. Doom Guy, however, managed to dash in before I could close the door!
Good thing the inside door to the rest of the house was closed!
I started taking things out of the sun room so I could clean the floor. In the process, I have come to the conclusion that the turd bombs are not from the cats, but from the skunk.
After I got the mess cleaned up, washed the floor and transferred the cat kibble from the bag with a hole into a bucket, I sat outside to clean my late father’s wheelchair with a disinfectant cleaner while the floor dried.
When I was able to start putting things back inside, I found the sun room occupied already.
Doom Guy is such a cutie! He even let me pick him up and sit for a while with him cuddled in my arms.
Later on, I found him back again – this time with company!
Corvo is letting me come closer, but still won’t let me pet him.
Adorable brothers!!!
After all was finished and we were settling in for the evening, I found out about a legendary raid – Mewtwo – in Pokemon Go that was happening in town. My daughter and I have not been able to do one yet, so we decided to head into town and join the raid.
When I came out the door, I was immediately set upon by Doom Guy. As I picked him up to cuddle, I saw we had company…
He’s back!
(In fact, he’s back right now. I can hear him under my office window, knocking the metal food bowls around, as I write this!)
Before we left he dashed into the sun room.
*sigh*
Well, it’s now closed up for the night, so hopefully, no more turd bombs!
