Critter of the Day: a Beep in the snow

More photos going back to January.

A bird feeder is as good a place to groom as anywhere else, I suppose! :-)

Bleeeeeeeeepppppppp!

Such a pretty kitty!

Hard to believe that, only a year ago, Beep Beep was such a skinny little thing. Now she’s all big and healthy and hardy!

Bonus Critters of the Day: best friends

I just went over some photos from the DSLR and found more worth posting for the critters of the day. These go back to the second half of January, and I will be posting them over the next few days.

Since today is Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d post these photos taken by my daughter.

These two just loved to be together – no matter how awkward that might be!

We really didn’t want to bring The Outsider in without Doom Guy.

Alas, if she were to survive the winter without harm, we had no choice. Once we can afford to get Doom Guy fixed, I think we’re all in favour of making him an inside cat, too! At that point, we would have 4 indoor cats, which will be quite enough, thankyouverymuch. DahBoy and his Mama are still adjusting to having The Outsider as their new companion!

Brrr…

Today, this 4th day of Christmas, came in bright, clear and bitterly cold!

Part of my morning routine, after feeding the animals, is to switch out the memory card on the trail cam, which I’ve found I can’t do with gloves or mitts on. It was -25C this morning, with a “feels like” of -32C.

Meet Slick and the Post Cats

First off, a great big thank you to 53old for identifying our little squeaker.  It is neither vole nor mole, but a pygmy shrew!  No wonder I didn’t find it in my searches.  I was looking up moles, voles and rodents.  It’s not a rodent, either, so nothing like it came up.  In fact, seeing what it eats, this is a critter we want to keep around!  Which means, if we ever had the chance to rescue others, we certainly will.

While feeding the cats this morning, one of the dad cats was around.  He seems to be getting more comfortable with us – and the other cats with him (though, to be honest, for all I know, he’s really a she).  As I was going in and out of the sun room to get deer and bird feed, I found him eating with our own cats, and he didn’t try to run away.  Which is more than even Rosencrantz and Guildenstern will do.

See my toe beans?

We have had a house guest for the past week and a half, which made for some creative sleeping arrangements that involved our king size mattress on the dining room floor.  We drove her to the airport in the wee hours of the morning, which meant we could clear it out again.  We won’t be able to lean the mattress against the dining room wall, as we had before, though, as we will be having guests tomorrow, and need to get it out.

For now, it’s leaning against the wall in the hallway.

The inside cats are loving it there as much as they loved it in the dining room.

Especially our mama cat.

She was rolling around up there in pure ecstasy.  It’s better than cat nip!  She paused in her rolling just long enough to show off some toe beans. :-D

She’s so funny!

A rare sighting of The Hand

Once spring arrived, most of the outside cats just seemed to disappear.  Butterscotch and Beep are around all the time, of course, since their kittens are here.  Rolando Moon comes around fairly regularly.  Nasty Crime Boy joined us a couple of times when we were doing cook outs, but we haven’t seen him in ages.

Then, there is the elusive The Hand.

She just slinks in and out, once in a while.  I happened to be at the living room window, by the tripod, when I saw her go by and barely managed to get a picture!

She is just a beauty, and so very shy!
