We have finally reached a point where enough snow has melted away, and the yard is dry enough, that I can walk around most of the yard.

At least while the ground is still frozen in the mornings.

Which meant I have finally been able to look for the base of the grape vine that got surrounded by spirea, next to the storage house.

I found it.

It’s still hard to see, so I put the arrow in. It’s hard to see because there is a spirea growing right up against it!

I’m going to have to be very careful, clearing that away.

Then I can prune it back and set up some kind of trellis for it to climb. I’m thinking of using the left over wire fencing I used to build the back gate. After that, it will be a matter of keeping the spirea from crowding it again. Hopefully, this will translate to better, bigger grapes to harvest this year. If nothing else, it’ll be easier to get to them! :-)

While doing my much extended rounds this morning, I had some delightful company.

A bit of levity, and an update

One of the first things I do every morning is check the weather.

This is what I saw, yesterday morning.

Just so you know, 46C is 114F.

The error even stayed there for most of the day. LOL

It’s possible it was accidentally in Fahrenheit, which would make it about 8C, but we didn’t have a high of 8C the day before – we barely got above 0C – so that doesn’t make sense, either.

At least it was good for a giggle!

We’ll take what we can get! ;-)

Bouncin’ Babies

Ah, spring is in the air!

Here is some video I found while checking the trail cam this morning.

Pay close attention to the background.

The young deer back there are just full of bounce and energy!!

We are also looking ahead to more bouncing babies.

Butterscotch is getting big, and it’s not just gaining weight from having a reliable food source, anymore! She’s getting quite rolly polly in the middle. Should be interesting to see how big of a litter she has!

I’m pretty sure that Beep Beep is pregnant. She, too, has put on weight just from having reliable access to food, so it may be just that, but … well … it’s that time of year!

The last while, it has been Beep Beep that has been following me when I do my rounds and wanting to be picked up. Butterscotch still wants up and attention, but I think it’s starting to get uncomfortable for her to be picked up, no matter how gentle I try to be. Beep Beep is taking advantage of this, it seems. She will just loll about in my arms, then give me chin kisses.

Such sweet kitties!

A light at the end of the tunnel?

After I wrote about our foggy morning, yesterday, my daughter and I headed to town for her shift.

Locally, we had a light, moody fog. By the time we left, it was pretty much gone.

On the way to town, we drove into a wall of fog, that just kept getting denser as we got closer to the lake!

I took this picture in the grocery store parking lot.

Keep in mind that my phone’s camera cleans visibility up quite a bit with smoke or fog, so in real life, the visibility was actually much less. Even so, I would normally be able to see several buildings, including the hospital my husband is in, from here!

Critter of the Day: the lady and her friends

We were able to get a whole bunch of photos of the piebald deer that started visiting us last year.

She tends to show up with several other deer.

The day these were taken, there were 6 deer, altogether.

She is such a beauty!

Though she shows up with a herd, we have been able to identify the deer with her here as her offspring.

From what I can tell, the group is three does with their offspring. Whether they are a herd, or if they just happen to show up for some free food at the same time, I am not sure.

It would be awesome if she became one of our regular visitors!

Wet morning rounds

We had quite a bit of rain, overnight, which made for some lovely fog this morning – and lots of water and mud to slog through!

When putting out feed for the deer, some of the usual spots I leave feed are all water right now, so I had to change that up a bit.

I wonder if our little buck will come over and splash in the puddle again? :-D

A memorable anniversary

Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary.

Well. As much as we could!

I drove my daughter to work in the morning, which meant I was in town late enough for the grocery store to be open, so I picked up a few things before going to see my husband.

I found the tiniest little sheet cake for us to share – making sure to check if he was allowed to eat cake before I brought it in!

It was just big enough for 4 pieces, so he and I shared half, and I brought the other half home for the girls. :-)

Critter of the Day: my little chickadee

I just uploaded another batch of photos from the feeding station outside our living room window. I’ll be posting the last of the March images over the next while, starting with this little cutie!

The chickadees like to grab seed from the feeders, then go into the lilac branches. There, we can see them pecking at the branch they are on, apparently trying to break the seed they brought with them. The blue jays like to do the same thing with sunflower seeds.
