This is what I’ve been waking up to, lately.

What a lovely evening it was today! Though it was quite windy earlier, by evening it was calm and warm.
The outside cats were in their glory!
Continue readingAll caught up with March, and now posting photos taken this month.
These were taken on April 4 – the day I drove my husband to the hospital in the city for some tests, and got him back to his room at the local hospital, just before a storm hit.
The weather outside may have been nasty, but that didn’t stop some hungry redpolls!
If you look behind the birds, you can get some idea of just how windy is was – like in the first one, where you can see seeds being blown away!

The last couple of days have been very windy. I’d hoped to start cleaning up the fallen twigs and branches around the yard by now, but we’re not quite there, yet.
While putting out feed for the birds and deer, I thought I would do one thing, though. There is a bird house on a post outside our dining room window that has a tree growing next to it. The tree has a couple of trunks growing out of its base, one of which is growing against the post, pushing it aside. I figured this would be a good time to try and shift the one trunk to the other side of the post. This way, it might start pushing the post straight again.
That didn’t quite work.
It broke off completely.

As you can see from the stump, this is not the first time it has broken! Though the tree only put out 2 or 3 cherries – the only reason we figured out what the tree was – it was in full leaf and seemed to be strong and healthy, so it was a bit of a surprise to see how dry and half-rotted the base turned out to be. It makes me wonder about the one part that’s still there.
We shall see how it does, this year.
Before heading out to see my husband in the hospital, we had a new visitor.
Continue readingMy daughter had her first Sunday shift today; at only 4 hours long, we left later and I simply stayed in town until she was done.
As we were getting ready to head out, I popped out to see if there were any cats to say hello to.
I saw none, but heard a noise above my head. It took a bit, but I found her – Rolando Moon had been on the roof, and was making her way down the tree towards me.
She paused at their favourite sitting spot, where I could reach to pet her – and get a few pictures that I just love and have to share! These are in chronological order. :-D

That’s just how she rolls! :-D
It was quite a lovely day today, and the cats were enjoying it as much as they could! By the time I got those pictures, I had three other cats come out to see what was going on!
After I dropped my daughter off at work, I went to the hospital to see my husband. He was just finishing up lunch, and told me they were soon going to move him to a private room!
Clearly, he’s going to be there for a while.
Continue readingThere was a nice little surprise out our living room window this morning. We had a group of 5 deer out there – and one distinctive lady is a return visitor from last winter!

It’s entirely possible other deer that have been visiting us are returns from last winter, but few are distinctive enough to recognize, a year later. This one, with its piebald markings, is one of those few. She was part of a group of 3 deer. The other deer in the photo is part of a group of 2 that are regular visitors.
I hoped the piebald would come back! :-)
Still on the lookout for a deer missing its tail. :-D
While tending the fire for the cookout, we were visited by many cats. They didn’t want to come close to the fire pit, but they did circle around us. Several went to and from the collapsing log building nearby.
Including this beautiful lady!

Beep Beep was unimpressed that I was taking pictures, instead of letting her climb on me. :-D
I just wanted to share some pictures of the outside cats with you. :-)
First up, we found not-Slick in the sun room again.

That is one beat up looking cat. The expression of tragedy on his face is just too much!
Coming back from a trip to the dump this morning, I found this waiting for me.
Can you spot the kitties?

There are five cats in that picture.
When I got closer, I had to try and zoom in on Slick.

That looks like a fresh wound on his nose, next to an old scar. The fresh wound closely matches a scar not-Slick has on his nose.
Poor things!
The Re-Farmer
What a day it is turning out to be, today!
It’s supposed to be the last colder day, today (which has since been extended another day). Though it’s supposed to warm up to -9C this afternoon, high winds are expected to make things chillier. Which has translated to a day with sunny skies and calm one minute, blustering snow and low visibility the next, then back again!

I just wanted to share this picture I took of Rolando Moon yesterday morning, before I took the video I posted yesterday. She was so funny, up on the bird feeder. She wouldn’t come down until I started adding more feed to the platform for the birds. :-D

It didn’t take her long to get back up again, and she spent quite a bit of time up there, watching the birds, deer and other cats, from on high.
After seeing Butterscotch’s condition yesterday, we kept checking out the bathroom window to see how she was doing. She stayed in there for much of the day, sitting on my late father’s favorite swing bench. At one point, she had 5 other cats all bundled around her!
I managed to get a picture of this, through the window.
Continue readingYesterday was a fairly long day, as the girls and I made another trip into the city. Which should be the last supply trip needed. From now on, anything we’ll need over the month can be picked up locally.
Of course, before we headed out, I fed the critters. As I was putting food and water in the sun room, I discovered I had some quiet company.
