As I write this, it is currently -29C, with a wind chill of -35C

When I went out to do my rounds, it was -32C.

Which would be why I found this.

The water in the sun room was almost completely solid ice. While we have had it ice over before, never to the point that I had to take the bowl outside and knock the ice out, like I do with the outside water bowl every morning. There was some liquid water at the very bottom, where the metal base is warmed by the light bulb below, but not very much.

Also, my daughter had found the bowl knocked off the heater last night, so she put it back and refilled it. This isn’t water from the morning before. This was refilled with warm water just hours ago.

It’s been bitterly cold like this for the past few days, and expected to continue through tomorrow. The critters seem to be taking it all in stride. When I put food and water out for the cats, they tend to prefer to eat and drink outside, rather than in the sun room. They do like their sun spots. There is a bench and other flat surfaces outside, under the kitchen window, and there is one higher spot that the cats like to sit in and enjoy the sun. This morning, it was The Outsider in there.

Later on, I saw my brother’s dog had come to visit – I noticed only because I could see Doom Guy in the tree outside the kitchen window, looking down at something. This bitter cold is heaven for my brother’s dog, even though he’s only half Great Pyrenees.

Something we will need to consider, when we finally get our own dog. :-)
