Slick, Stinky and bedside guardians

I headed out early to see my husband in the hospital, and did the feeding of critters before I left.

When I opened the doors into the sun room, this is what I found, staring at me!

My first reaction was, wow! This is the closest Slick has ever let me get to him, without immediately running off!

I was able to get a picture from the doorway, but he left as soon as I stepped into the room.

One of these days, I might actually be able to touch him.

My second reaction was…

… this cat has seen better days!

My third reaction was, oh, great. There’s a turd on the blanket.

Hold on… that’s not a cat turd.

That’s skunk turd!

Stinky is back, and exploring!

I don’t think we’ll have much luck training a skunk not to leave us “presents” indoors.

Ah, well. A bit longer, and it’ll be warm enough that they won’t need the sun room for shelter, and we’ll be closing the outside doors again.

I got to the hospital in time to catch up before my husband’s meds got delivered, and was there for the doctor’s visit. When my daughter and I visited last night, we brought him some guardians to watch over him; a bear and a mighty T-Rex!

Okay. A bobble headed bear, and the most glam T-Rex, ever.

If you flip the sequins the other way, he’s purple.

The nurses loved his new guardians. :-D

It was a good news day. They got my husband’s sugars up last night, so he was finally able to sleep.

He slept for a solid 10 hours!!

He did get his diuretic injected into the IV port in the evening (they’d skipped the morning), and he got it again this morning. His diabetic medications are still on hold – they do NOT want a repeat of the past two days! They are still taking blood every day, including to monitor his electrolytes, since he’s on the fluid restriction. Based on his bloodwork, he has reached the upper limit on the IV diuretic, and will be getting it in pill form from now on. By their calculations, based on how much he’s been drinking and how much he’s been eliminating, he has lost a total of 20 pounds of straight fluids since he arrived, so over about 4 1/2 days. Since they weren’t able to get proper measurements for the first day and a half, I would say that is on the low side.

He is definitely feeling the difference. No more running out of breath, just from chewing on an ice chip. He can move around better, and while his feet are still puffy, even his legs are noticeably less so. If they weren’t still waiting on the city tests, he would probably be coming home.

We will need to be ready with a care plan for that.

Which reminds me; I need to see if we can get a bariatric hospital bed for home.

Time to make some phone calls!
