Today the girls and I headed into the city for our monthly shop.
I know that there are people out there who actually enjoy shopping. I don’t get it. I really don’t!
Okay, so today turned out to be a more complex shop than usual, but still… Ugh. It’s just so draining!
So here is a picture of a fungus. Because it cheers me up!

For our first stop, we swung by a liquidation place I’d heard about, and have been wanting to check out for a while. One of their locations is furniture. This one has groceries, pet food and supplies, toys, clothing, tools – even paint and flooring! – appliances, nic nacs, etc. We got a couple of things, but mostly avoided the food section, since this was our first stop of the day and we didn’t want refrigerated items in the van quite yet. We also just skirted around the edges of the clothing area. We definitely want to go back there for winter coats and boots. Their inventory constantly changes, though, so who knows what will be there the next time we swing by.

The location of this place happened to be convenient to go to a particular Walmart we prefer. Lately, that’s where we’ve been getting our cat food. They have bigger bags of kibble for only slightly more than the smaller Costco bags, plus they have more variety in their cases of wet cat food at good prices, so it’s worth the extra stop.
Then it was off to Costco, but along the way, the girls wanted to stop at a Micheal’s, first. It was along the way, so that worked out. Likewise, after we finished at Costco, we made a stop at Superstore for the items we don’t want to buy in bulk. We don’t usually go to Superstore, but didn’t have the energy to go to our usual store. I did remember to make one quick stop to pick up filters for our aquarium at least!
In the end, we spent about 6 hours in the city, doing the various shopping, plus the two hours of driving time just from home to the city’s perimeter.
Soooo draining!
Then, just as we were leaving the city, it started to pour! We were even starting to think about how much “fun” it would be, unloading the van in the rain, but by half way home, we had driven out of it.
It feels so good to be stocked up again – and know that we won’t have to do it again for a while!
If all goes well, tomorrow will be another day to get some work done outside. My mother has asked me to bring her some crabapples. There is one tree where the apples were larger, but had no taste, but it seems like they just needed more time – and rain! – because they are now tasting as good as the one tree I’d been able to pick from earlier. There aren’t a lot on it, but it should be enough for my mom to make herself a few nice treats. π
For now, however, I just want to get some rest. Maybe even get to bed early.
Oh. Wait. I haven’t had supper yet. Maybe I should eat something, first? π
The Re-Farmer
Yes, food would probably be a good thing. π Look at the bright side on the rest of it though; it’s a once a month thing for you.
