Things to come…

One bonus of having company: we do stuff we don’t take the time for, if it’s just us. Like…

… roast some pink banana squash.

Or use the Dutch oven…

… to make a pot roast.

Everything but the meat, we grew ourselves.

The squash is in the oven, and the pot roast is on coals right now.

Time to go and get some booze.

  1. Don’t you just love that feeling of harvesting, cooking, serving your home-grown food?! I will never tire of it! Even when I just started out and was here alone I’d practically skip out to the garden to harvest my lunch. There is something so fulfilling about it, I can’t explain it right.

I hope it was a delicious meal for you and your guests! I totally agree, you do things for guests you’d like to do for yourself but rarely find the time or inclination. For me it’s not cooking, b/c we eat like that pretty much every day. But, I do find the effort to clean the house, a real deep cleaning, which I do appreciate so much, but apparently not enough to do it for myself. 😆

  2. It was awesome, thanks!

We have never done squash much over the years, so we’re really interesting in trying different types to see what we like enough to keep growing. With having to harvest them early due to frost, I don’t know how accurate of a gauge we’ll have this year, but my goodness, some of them grew so much better than others!

The roasted Pink Banana was good, but I think I like the Red Kuri we’ve grown before, better, still. Sadly, we only got one mature Red Kuri this year.
