Another day

I had some company while I was doing my rounds this morning.

I thought it was just adorable, how they loafed themselves against the wind, while keeping their toes out of the snow. :-D

I would love to have been able to do that same, this morning!

The reality of things

I’ve been told I should make sure to add warnings before I post certain things, so I’ll start with that. Towards the end of this post, there are pictures of a dead bird.

Aside from that, during my morning rounds, I did get photos of Two Face. Her wound is healing quite nicely. You can hardly tell where it is, if you’re not looking for it!

Of fences and a wounded cat

Part of my morning routine, after I’ve done my rounds and switched out the memory cards on the trail cams, is to review what the cameras recorded.

It’s not unusual for me to see things they recorded that we miss completely, otherwise. Like all the deer that go past one of the cameras while we are in bed.

Every now and then, though, I catch something that I should have seen myself, but somehow missed!

Like the top line of barbed wire on a fence being damaged!

A new path, and comparisons

What a lovely day today!

Okay, according to The Weather Network, it’s -17C/1F with a wind chill of -27C/-16F, but I’ve been outside for the past while, in full sun and sheltered from the wind, and it was feeling downright tropical out there! Unlike yesterday, this morning I had all sorts of cats to greet me while I did my rounds.

On the down side, when I got to the van to head into town, I discovered a frozen present on the roof, all down the side door of my van, and even on the ground, from a cat in the rafters. I saw Nicky the Nose in there earlier, when I double checked to make sure the van was plugged in. Nasty bugger shat all over our van!

Ah, well. I meant to get a car wash before taking it in to get the brakes done, anyhow. :-/

Heading to town today, we were glad to find the roads had been plowed of drifts – though my daughter did have to fight one to open the gate! The high winds we’ve been having have really hard packed the snow. It was still blowing a lot on the roads, coming almost directly from the north, but here at home, we have trees, and the house itself, blocking most of the north winds. There’s just that one gap between the maple and spruce groves that acts as quite the funnel!

New Addition?

It was my turn to do the evening cat routine last night. This includes going into the sun room to top up the food and water for the outside cats, as well as cleaning out the two litter pans we have out there.

As usual, once they heard me in there, cats started streaming in. Two-Face was already there, and I was soon joined by Keith. Then Big Jim and Keith came in and…

… wait

…what?

My brother is awesome. Also, wtf?

It’s been warming up for the past few days, which means I had plenty of company while doing my rounds this morning. Butterscotch, as usual, wanted to be carried, while three others followed along.

Then Keith caught up to me. :-D

This is how he asks to be picked up.

One down, more to go!

Well, the deed is done.

Little Susan had an appointment with the vet, yesterday, and she is now recovering from surgery!

Since we had to make sure to 1) have her available to take to the vet in the first place and 2) make sure she didn’t eat anything after 8pm the night before, we brought her into the house as quickly as we could catch her, the day before.

It’s not that she was actively trying to escape us. She just wasn’t interested in being picked up or anything.

Once inside, it was… interesting.

Life goes on

I want to thank those who reached out to me after my post about the various situations we’re having to deal with on the property. Your kind words and encouragement are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The night I wrote about all that, one more thing got added to the list.

My husband broke a tooth!

This and That

Of course, things have been busy for the past while, even though we try to keep Christmas and New Year’s very low key. I finally have some time to settle in at the computer, so I’m going to take advantage of that and catch up in things.

I’ll be going backwards in time, for the most part. :-D

Use Watcha Got cat condo!

Things warmed up a bit today, and we got a bit of snow. It won’t last long; tomorrow, the temperatures are supposed to dip again.

After some consideration of what materials I had available, today I finally built an insulated shelter for the outside cats, as an extra layer of protection in the sun room, for when things start to get really cold.
