Critter of the Day: Swallowtail on lilacs

Another picture taken by my daughter, in the middle of June.

Looking it up, I am seeing this butterfly identified as both the Eastern and Western Tiger Swallowtail.

From my searches, more of these come up as Western than Eastern, though, so… I’ll go with Western.

  1. Next year I’m going to have to look into getting some different types of caterpillars. Normally just the Monarch butterfly caterpillars are sent.

    • I once found some amazing caterpillars on an apple tree. They had fake eyes on them. I now know they were swallowtail caterpillars. Those would be awesome, if you can find them!
