Looks okay

Just got back from checking on Butterscotch and her kittens.

When I first came in, she and her babies were all cuddled up, and I wasn’t going to disturb her.

She came out while I was paying attention to Beep Beep, though, so I took advantage of the situation.

I found other spots of blood on the pillow; it was all quite dry. I took the kittens out and put them on one of the pieces of Styrofoam insulation we have in there for the cats to lie on (they love them to pieces – literally!), so they’d be on a warm surface while I cleared out the box nest. I could only flip the pillow for now – we don’t have any more old pillows I can use to replace it at the moment – but the other side was quite dirty from a winter’s worth of muddy feet, so I took the little cat bed I made for them and put it in.

Then I checked each of the kittens as I put them back. Butterscotch climbed right in while I was doing that, so they were soon cozy with mom.

I also took pictures, of course.

This little tuxedo was quite the wiggly worm! I love the little skunk strip on its nose.

Like the tuxedo, this orange and white kitten still has his eyes closed. He also seems to be the more active of all of them, having squirmed himself off the piece of foam rather quickly!

This tabby was not too happy being picked up, and he was very vocal about getting back to Mom!

Just look at those beautiful, wide open eyes! What a cutie!

There are no signs of injury on any of the kittens, nor on Butterscotch. Wherever the blood came from, there is no sign of it anymore.

While I was socializing with Beep Beep yesterday (Butterscotch was content to stay with her babies), I tried to make another box nest for her. She doesn’t seem interested in the spot Butterscotch had her babies, and the aquarium box we put in for a shelter for them over the winter is, I think, too big and open. So I found a smaller box that fit inside it, and grabbed one of the blankets we’d put on the concrete floor under the shelter, folded it to size and stuck it in for a bed.

While I was checking on the kittens, Beep Beep seems to have finally discovered it. She was curled up in it when I left.

I am really hoping this new nest is satisfactory for her to have her babies in. I was holding her yesterday, and she was sprawled across me. I could feel bumps from her belly, and could even see her belly wriggling and squirming with some very active babies! She must be so ready to have them by now! :-D
